Looks Can Be Deceiving...

This weekend was the kick-off to my cooking experiences!  The plan is to prepare a new dish and dessert every week and then let everyone know how it turned out.  I started off easy, as a monkey could probably make what I did, but I learned some things throughout the process.  I will keep this honest and post all of my own pictures, so I apologize for the lack of presentation and how unappetizing I'm probably able to make something look!  No one would ever believe I made something resembling a Pinterest photo...

The entrĂ©e I chose was Million Dollar Spaghetti Casserole.  I am not a huge fan of spaghetti but again, was looking for easy and something my step-dad would enjoy since he's the designated guinea pig.   All you had to do was cook the noodles, brown the hamburger and mix it with the sauce, combine the cheese mixture and layer it all in a casserole dish.

Note:  If you're like me and the sight and smell of cottage cheese makes you gag, substitute it with ricotta cheese instead.

pass or fail? X

I, personally, did not like this dish.  I thought it was too cheesy (yes, there is such a thing!) and added more of the meat sauce that was left over.  Dan, the guinea pig, would argue that it was a pass and would totally eat it again.  Good thing for leftovers...

Onto dessert.  I made Cream Cheese Banana Bread, only because my mom had ripe bananas to use and who doesn't love anything with cream cheese?!  A couple things I learned:  Do not use Pam Baking Spray with Flour because the edges fried instead of baked.  Grease and flour your baking pan yourself.  If the top of the bread is getting too brown, put foil on top of it.  Who knew, lol.  Lastly, the baking time in the recipe needed to be extended.  The middle of the bread wasn't set in the allotted time.

    pass or fail? X

This was definitely a huge disappointment.  Unless you like burnt banana bread that doesn't taste like much of anything.  I don't know if the guinea pig even tried it, especially with the alternative being Tasty Cakes.

So, with the first weekend being a big huge fail, let's hope my next attempt at edible food turns out way better!
